Coffee on three continents

Experiences in three continents (Africa, Asia, and Latin America) since the mid 1960’s have shown that NORDOX product efficacy is high as a preventive treatment against important Coffee diseases.

Coffee Leaf Rust (CLR) Hemileia vastatrix, and Coffee Leaf Spot (CLS), Cercospora coffeicola, are controlled with rates from 1.5 Kg – 2.4 Kg/hectare per application of our 75% copper containing products.

Coffee Berry Disease (CBD), Colletotrichum kahawae, is normally controlled by 3.8 Kg/hectare NORDOX 75% copper in East Africa.

NORDOX is quite reliable in the control and outperforming the rest of the copper-based fungicides in the control of this important disease. Often NORDOX 75% Cu products are mixed with chlorothalonil with rates; 2.2 Kg NORDOX (75% Cu) + 2 liters of chlorothalonil per hectare.

South American Leaf Spot Mycena citricolor (or “ojo de gallo”), and Black rotCorticium coleroga (“mal de hilachas”) can be controlled with dosages of less than 2 Kg/hectare of NORDOX 75% Cu products.

Bacterial Blight of Coffee (BBC), Pseudomonas syringae pv. Garcae, is now increasing. We have started evaluating the effect of NORDOX. We have seen the stronger suppression of bacterial diseases in other crops like stone fruit, pome fruit, citrus, and annual crops like tomatoes and peppers from NORDOX compared to products with other forms of copper.

An extra important advantage of using cuprous oxide on coffee is the so called ‘tonic effect’ for coffee trees, provided by copper in its role as an essential micronutrient. Copper fungicide sprays achieve this tonic effect that improves the general performance of the tree by extending leaf retention and therefore boosting tree growth and yield.
